Wildland Urban Interface Collective

Wildland Urban Interface is a lens- based artist collective interested in how our physical, spacial environment is defined in a screen-based world, and how the proliferation of virtual connectivity has brought people and place closer together, yet has made direct experience increasingly complicated. WUI is primarily focused on dialogue (the work, a byproduct) in a variety of forms (art talks, studio visits, critique groups, exhibition presentations, postcards, etc.) between each member. WUI has taken this dialogue to art shows in both the U.S. and Europe, has lectured at art conferences and in college classrooms, has collaborated with Death Row inmates at Riverbend Maximum Security Prison in Nashville, TN, and most recently participated in the NES artist residency in Skagastrond, Iceland. Members include John Engelbrecht, Chris Mortenson, Jonathan Johnson, and Jonathan Rattner.
